Working with WaterAid
We believe that clean water should be available to everyone, everywhere; today and for future generations. That's why we’re proud to work with and support our charity partner WaterAid. Since 1989, our fundraising activities have helped bring clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene to communities worldwide.
Bringing clean water to Bangladesh
Over the years, our partnership with WaterAid has worked towards one vision. The vision of a world where everyone, everywhere has access to the most basic human right; clean water.
Since 2019, we’ve been working with WaterAid to help install a self-sufficient and climate-resilient clean water supply and decent toilets in southwest Bangladesh. Over the course of this 5-year project, we aim to raise £560,000 and reach over 100,000 people with clean water and decent toilets.
The climate-resilient water supply system that we are funding will be owned and operated by the local community, so that it can continue to provide clean water for generations to come.
Every penny we raise goes toward supporting this life-changing work.
Empowering women and championing equality
Alongside bringing clean water to hundreds of thousands of people, our innovative partnership with WaterAid is helping to tackle gender inequality in Bangladesh.
For many women in Bangladesh, gender discrimination means that they bear the bulk of household responsibilities like collecting water, which can often take many hours. This in turn leads them to miss out on education and employment opportunities, leaving them financially dependent and often trapped in the cycle of poverty.
That’s why one of our projects aims to train 80 women in the operation and maintenance of a reverse osmosis water treatment plant, helping them gain vital skills and financial independence. Through this project, local women can realise their potential, become more financially secure, and help others in the community to access clean water and good sanitation.
Our women entrepreneurs' success stories
Working with WaterAid as part of our Bangladesh project, we’re supporting 80 women to run and manage their own water treatment plants. In Bangladesh, social norms mean that women and girls are often tasked with collecting water for their families. In many areas, this water is dirty, and it can take hours to collect. This leaves women and girls with little time to pursue education and employment opportunities.
