Standpipe hire

For temporary water needs, hire a self-supporting standpipe with a meter and backflow prevention from Severn Trent approved partner, Aquam Water Services.

A standpipe means you can connect to our water distribution network for temporary supply. It is a tall, self-supporting pipe with a tap at the end.

They are attached to a hydrant to provide a water supply where one isn’t currently available, for example, at a construction site.

Hiring a standpipe

We understand that your businesses may sometimes require an additional water supply outside of our normal supply arrangements where one isn’t currently available, for example, at a construction site. That’s why we offer a comprehensive standpipe hire service.

As the water company we must ensure that our customers’ drinking water is protected, therefore you can only connect to our water network using an approved standpipe for temporary supply. These standpipes are fitted with a double-check valve that prevents water from entering the water mains, a water meter to monitor the water leaving the mains and GPRS capability to ensure all usage is tracked.

To obtain water from the Severn Trent Network you’ll need to hire a metered standpipe from our approved contract partner, Aquam Water Services. Follow the steps below to hire a standpipe.

Standpipes that are rented should be connected exclusively to an outlet that is displayed on the ‘safe hydrants’ app by Aquam, available on both the App Store and Google Play.
