Suppliers and contractors

We collaborate closely with our suppliers, considering the unique complexities, risks, and opportunities in various supply markets. By doing this, we enhance supply chain performance, cut costs, and manage risk effectively.

Our supply agreements comply with the European Union Utilities Contract Regulations, and as of the 28th October 2024 our supply agreements will comply with UK Procurement Regulations 2024 as a Private Utility. The specifics, such as contract length and the number of suppliers, are determined on a case-by-case basis.

We consider market dynamics and spending size when developing agreements. When competition is mandated by legislation, we identify potential suppliers through responses to Find a Tender advertisements or the Achilles Utilities Vendor Database. Otherwise, we source suppliers from SAP Ariba Discovery, trade associations, our approved database, the internet, catalogues, and historical expressions of interest.

We prioritise honesty, integrity, and fair competition in all our sourcing activities, adhering to the Competition Act 1998 and Ofwat’s Regulatory Guideline on ‘Transfer Pricing in the Water Industry.’

When interacting with suppliers, we avoid abusing purchasing power, altering payment terms, or breaching confidentiality. We expect our suppliers to uphold these principles as well. Additionally, we remain committed to developing sustainable procurement policies that address economic, environmental, and social aspects

Our supply chain and procurement teams actively enhance supplier interactions. We stay current by adopting best practices through benchmarking, research, and supplier feedback.

Additionally, we explore alternative sourcing approaches, such as e-tendering, leveraging technology to streamline procurement processes and enhance communication with suppliers.

Purchase Orders are raised for the request of chargeable goods or services, these are sent electronically to you, for you to then raise an invoice, once the services or goods have been received.

Purchase orders are handled in line with our general terms and conditions unless the purchase order states that other terms and conditions apply, for example, a specific contract.

In such cases, we’ll discuss and agree on any modifications to the standard contractual terms and conditions with the supplier beforehand.

Health and safety

Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our visitors and employees. To ensure this, we require all personnel working on Severn Trent sites to complete a safety induction before starting work. No exceptions. Violating regulations or engaging in unsafe behaviour on-site will result in removal and potential denial of access to other sewage works.

Any unsafe incidents or near misses must be promptly reported to site management. Additionally, work is only permitted in designated areas, so please be aware that some locations are off-limits.

If you’re visiting one of our tankered waste sites, please watch our site safety video beforehand to familiarise yourself with all relevant health and safety requirements.”
