Severn Trent to begin £10.8m water improvement project in Warwickshire
Tuesday 11th February 2025
Severn Trent’s set to invest a huge £10.8m across Warwickshire – in a scheme that’s set to bring water quality benefits to those living in and around Hatton.
The scheme involves laying a new 10km water pipe to its Hatton Water Treatment Works, that will see water quality improvements while ensuring a reliable supply for the future.
The multimillion-pound investment will see work begin in February and we expect it to last until November, with the majority of work taking place on private land.
There will be some instances at the start of the project where there may be a few short road closures and traffic lights, to allow teams to safely lay the new pipe.
Chris Reeds, Senior Programme Manager at Severn Trent said: “Projects like this are crucial in making sure our network is in the best possible condition, so our customers get the water supply they deserve.
“Better water quality, and a more resilient supply will help ensure those living in the Hatton area have a water supply fit for the future. And to do this, every effort has been made to keep any disruption to a minimum – but we are sorry in advance for the few road closures we’ll have at the start of the project.”
Severn Trent partners Avove will be carrying out work on behalf of the company, and will be starting work on Birmingham Road from the 17th February, before moving in sections onto Rising Lane, Case Lane Haywood Lane, Five Ways Road and The Firs.
For any road closures, a full diversion will be in place that’s been agreed with by Warwickshire County Council and are in place to keep crews safe as they work.
“We know that any road closure isn’t ideal, which is why we’ve planned for most of this work to take place on private land. But for the times where we have to work on the highways, we’ll be working quickly and in sections to help reduce our impact,” adds Chris. “This is a great project that when complete will benefit many in the area, better water quality and a brand-new pipe boosting resilience of the network – so we’re thankful for everyone’s patience as we begin work.”
Severn Trent has recently announced it’s to spend around £15bn over the next five years, with £825m being invested in Coventry and Warwickshire alone.
It also includes an investment of £420m to install 865 miles of new water pipes by 2030, to provide an even more reliable service for customers and businesses – with 114 new pipes for Coventry and Warwickshire creating 77 jobs in the county.
