Big Boost for Derby is back!

Wednesday 15 May 2024

Severn Trent and Derby Jobs are joining forces again to bring jobs, opportunities, and training to Derby.

Taking place on Wednesday 22 May between 10am and 2pm, at Derby County’s Pride Park Stadium, ‘Big Boost for Derby’ will have more employers, more jobs and more opportunities on offer.

Joining them with live jobs available are over 20 employers, including NHS, East Midlands Airport, DHU, Derbyshire Police, as well as providers such as Skills People Group and Portland Training with lots of roles available.

As well as a huge array of jobs being available, people will also be able to get a head-start on applying with the interactive employability skills sessions available for free – including virtual reality headsets to practice interview training, how to make great first impressions, and also one on one support with CV’s.

One jobseeker who attended the previous Big Boost for Derby found a job at Severn Trent, Rio Knott who now works at Severn Trent’s Pride Park offices said about the jobs fair: “My initial thoughts about attending the jobs fair was met with trepidation as I have been to a few fairs before and come away with nothing. I needed to go however as I was looking for a future career. At first, I was a bit lost, however the Severn Trent team quickly noticed me and approached me, making me feel welcome and comfortable. I went with them and had a talk with the team, discussing the job and possibilities at Severn Trent which resulted in me applying. I look forward to the career I can build here.”

Elizabeth Heath, societal lead at Severn Trent said: “It’s great to be back in Derby, and able to bring even more jobs and opportunities for those living here. Last years was so successful with an incredible turn out – that we’re excited to be working with Derby Jobs again to help boost skills and employment in the area. We want people to know that there’s jobs and opportunities out there, so more people like Rio can have the chance to find the career they want. It’s also amazing that so many employers are coming together again to help do this for Derby under one roof – with such a brilliant mix of support and jobs for people to explore.”

Councillor John Whitby, Cabinet Member for Children’s Social Care, Learning and Skills at Derby City Council, said: “We know looking for work, or finding out how to update your skills, can be daunting.  This event is a great chance to meet employers directly, explore exciting opportunities, and get the support you need in a friendly and helpful atmosphere. Last year’s event was incredibly successful and we’re proud of our continued partnership with Severn Trent to bring employers, providers, and support professionals together. Come along and, like Rio, this might be the right time and right place for you to find your ideal job.”

The Severn Trent and Derby Jobs ‘Big boost for Derby’, supports Severn Trent’s ambitions to help 100,000 people currently living in the Midlands, and supporting them into work and out of water poverty.

Severn Trent has collaborated with Derby City Council on the event to bring even more jobs and opportunities together all under one roof, making it easier and more accessible for those looking for work, or training and support.
