People living near Arnesby in Leicestershire are being invited to learn more about the final phase of a programme of work to upgrade water pipes in the area. 

The £3 million programme between the villages of Arnesby and Knapfton will ensure the continued supply of water to the community for years to come while futureproofing the network against the challenges of population growth and climate change.

The drop-in is being held at Shearsby Village Hall, Church Lane, Shearsby LE17 6PG on Thursday 18^th  July from 3.00pm to 6.00pm, with members of the project team on hand to answer any questions. 

Lisa Orme, Community Communications Manager at Severn Trent, said: “As time goes on, the pipes in our network can naturally degrade and become more prone to failure, which can impact customers supplies, so it is crucial that we are renewing our network to ensure it is in the best possible condition.  

“These upgrades also ensure that the network is fit to handle the expected rise in demand as a result of population growth, and the effects of more extreme weather events due to climate change.”

The final phase of works started on Monday 15^th July close to Knaptoft Hall Farm, before moving south along Leicester Road. 

Due to the location of the pipes to be replaced and to ensure the safety of the teams delivering the project and other road users, traffic management – including traffic lights and road closures with signed diversions – will be in place throughout. 

Lisa continued: “Our teams will be completing these works as safely and quickly as possible and to ensure the wellbeing of both our engineers and other road users, some temporary traffic management will be in place throughout.  

“We understand that roadworks can be frustrating, however by renewing the water infrastructure we are hopeful that our engineers won’t need to return to make repairs in the future.” 

Severn Trent will directly contact any customer whose water supply is expected to be interrupted during these works and access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout.
