A popular Warwickshire visitor site has been praised by national tourism body Visit England for the quality of its family-friendly facilities.

Draycote Water, which is owned and operated by Severn Trent, has been accredited under Visit England’s Quality Visitor Attraction Scheme after being assessed on the
facilities, visitor information and cleanliness at the reservoir and country park.

Following the assessment and site visit, Visit England assessors praised Draycote Water’s customer service, catering facilities, signage, car parking, general maintenance of the site, and its accessibility. Its children’s play area and garden, which see hundreds of visits every week, were also a highlight.

Tom Crawford, Severn Trent’s site supervisor at Draycote Water, said: “Our visitor site is massively popular with both local people and those from further afield.

“We see around half a million visits every year so to be awarded such a prestigious honour by Visit England is brilliant news for us. It underlines the effort we put in every day to maintain our standards and provide a first-class facility which everyone can enjoy all year round.

“Draycote Water is always popular for fishing and its sailing club. However, it’s great to see more and more walkers, cyclists, joggers and those with young families visiting us. We can’t wait to welcome more people in the months and years ahead.”

Draycote is a manmade reservoir with its construction taking place over two years between 1967 and 1969. Opened in 1970, today the reservoir can hold up to 23 billion litres of water, much of which is pumped from the River Leam. The reservoir is surrounded by a five-mile track, popular with walkers, cyclists and nature lovers.
