Emergency sewer repairs start on the A514, Derbyshire

Work has now started on a large sewer pipe on the A514, Swarkestone Road in Derbyshire, this Monday (1 February).
Zelia Lyne, from Severn Trent, said: “We’ve found some significant damage on one of our larger sewer pipes on A514. We’ve investigated the damage and the repairs to the sewer pipe are quite complex, and will take a couple of weeks to complete.
“This does mean that we’ve got to close a section of the A514 from the junction with the A5132 to the roundabout with the A50 from this Monday (1 Febuary) for two weeks. This involves a lengthy diversion route, but we need to close this section to make sure we can keep everyone safe while we do the work. While we’ve estimated that the repairs will take up to two weeks, we’ll be working around the clock to get it fixed and the road reopened sooner. The diversion route which will be clearly signed is along the A5132 through Barrow-on-Trent and Willington, up to the A50 and then along the A50.
“We’d like to apologise to anyone affected by this work, but it’s absolutely necessary to do these repairs to avoid the damage getting worse and sewage leaking into the area, which could cause flooding and pollution for our customers. We’ve been out and spoken to local businesses, farmers and staff at Chellaston Academy to tell them what we’re doing. We’ll keep everyone informed as work progresses and we’re really grateful for their understanding and patience.
“We’d like to take this opportunity to reassure our customers that we have the situation under control and repairs to the pipe are ongoing. We’ll get everything back to normal as quickly as we can. Again we’d like to apologise for any inconvenience.”
