Groby residents invited to drop-in ahead of £1.8m second phase of Severn Trent flood alleviation works

1st July 2024

Customers in Groby, Leicestershire are being invited to a drop-in session ahead of the next phase of Severn Trent’s £2.2 million flood alleviation works in the area.

We’ll be in the Waldrom Room at Groby Village Hall, Leicester Road, Groby LE6 0DQ on Wednesday 3 July from 3.30 -6.00pm.

This phase of the project – which will start in July 2024 and is expected to be completed in September – will see the installation of new pipes that will separate surface water from the sewage network.

The new pipes will help to ease pressure on the sewer network and will be installed from the junction of Ratby Road and Leicester Road to the Ratby Allotments.

Helen Purdy, Community Communications Officer at Severn Trent said: “Combined with the storm water storage tank that we’ve recently installed, these new pipes will be a massive help in offsetting some of the flooding issues that we know have been a cause of concern in the area recently.

“These events are a great opportunity for people to come along and ask us about the work, and for our team to get a better understanding of the local area. Feedback from our customers is important to us – so we’d love to see you there.”

The first phase of works – which included the installation of large storage pipes to capture and slowly release water back into the network after periods of heavy rain – was completed last week.

Helen continued: “We know that roadworks can be frustrating and inconvenient so we’re doing most of this work during the school holidays to minimise disruption. We would like to thank everyone for their patience while we completed this first important phase of works.”
