It’s set to be an ‘Appy New Year for Severn Trent
Thursday 28 December 2023
Severn Trent is gearing up for an ‘Appy New Year’, as its award-winning apprenticeship programme sets to open in early January (8 JAN).
The FTSE 100 company’s apprenticeship programme continues to grow in strength, as this year it’s set to create over 100 jobs, allowing people to earn as they learn over 30 different roles and programmes.
The company is encouraging anyone looking to kick start their career or thinking of a change in job and to learn new skills, to apply or explore the many opportunities available.
Severn Trent provides water and waste services to around 4.6m homes right across the Midlands, spanning from the tips of Bristol, right up to outskirts of Sheffield – with everything in between. And its apprenticeship programmes are available to absolutely anyone – regardless of age, background or where they live.
Jade Pearson, New Talent Lead at Severn Trent said: “What better way to kick off the New Year, than to open up applications ready to welcome our next wave of fantastic new talent into the business, as we continue to create work opportunities for hundreds of people living in the Midlands. We’re lucky that we have such a varied programme, and so many different options for people to consider – and this year we’ve even added seven new different programmes.
“While we do have the vital operational, technical and engineering roles that you’d expect with a water company to help keep everything flowing, we actually also now have roles within software development, digital tech design and governance, as well as business, finance, environment, cyber security and even an opportunity to work in our laboratories. Our roles are as diverse as the region we live and work in, so there’s something for everyone to explore, no matter where you’re from or who you are.”
Nathan Worton, 34 from Birmingham is in his third year of his apprenticeship. After working in retail for years, and the studying psychology, he felt a role in HR would be the perfect career change and joined Severn Trent in 2020 as a HR apprentice.
Nathan says: “I was drawn to Severn Trent as not only are they a big local company, but they have great rewards and benefits and seemed to really look after and value their employees. My apprenticeship has given me loads of opportunities and I have done tonnes of development and have access to so much training and support. Not only that though, I have had the opportunity to become a mentor in the community, have volunteering days that I can choose how I use them, I have also been involved with Pride events and raising money for WaterAid. The different things to get involved with are endless, all while still working on my apprenticeship, earning a salary and getting heaps of valuable experience.
“I’d really encourage anyone who’s even just thinking about a change or looking to start their career, to explore what’s available as Severn Trent really is much more than just a water company.”
More recently Severn Trent’s apprentice team has been recognised for the work they do, as they’re proud winners of the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards 2023 winning Engineering & Manufacturing Employer of the Year, while also receiving the Royal Princess Training Award, that recognised its contribution in the apprentice space.
The company has also quadrupled the number of opportunities it has available since 2020, as it’s commitment to continue to create opportunities for people continues to be a key priority.
Severn Trent’s applications open in the new year from 8th January and close on March 29th.
