Kickstarters kick off their placements at Severn Trent

Monday 25th January 2021

Severn Trent welcomed the first set of Kickstarters into the company  today , as its plans to provide 500 young people with work experience placements in 2021.

The seven Kickstarters , who are now also key workers, will be on placements at the FTSE 100 company for six-months, learning valuable skills and experience to help with securing permanent roles in the future.

The new joiners will be working in Coventry, Shelton, Leicester and Derby  .

Jade Pearson, New Talent Manager said: “It’s absolutely fantastic to still be able to welcome our first group of Kickstarters, and be able to continue with this amazing initiative, despite facing some challenges and restrictions due to the current lockdown.

“Each of the Kickstarts will be a key worker, working in areas of the business that are critical in making sure we’re delivering for our customers and communities, so they will be getting stuck in and really helping to make a difference right from the start.“Our new joiners, will be working across different areas of our business, including Water Quality and Environment, Health Safety and Wellbeing and Supply Chain & Logistics. They’ll be buddied up with a manager and mentor and given individual support to learn everything they need to be a success in their new role.”

The Kickstart programme set up by the Government, aims to help 16-24-year olds who are at risk of long-term unemployment, by creating six-month work experience opportunities.

Severn Trent is aiming to create 500 placements this year, to provide useful training, experience and skills to help young people with securing permanent jobs in the future.

“We’re really fortunate that as a business we’ve been able to adapt and still provide the placements and opportunities for those in our communities with everything going on, as we know a lot of businesses are in a very different position to us,” adds Jade. “We’re really looking forward to welcoming our Kickstarters and we’re excited to watch them develop during their time with us. We know they will make a real positive impact and help improve what we do. We really hope at the end of their time with us, we’ve helped provide a strong foundation of skills for them to kick start their careers.”

Severn Trent are aiming to welcome the next group of Kickstarters in March.
