Leicestershire MP Shockat Adam visits Severn Trent sewer mains works
9th April 2025
MP for Leicester South, Shockat Adam, paid a visit to see progress on Severn Trent’s Evington sewer improvement scheme.
The £1.2 million project includes the relining of 3km of sewer pipes that run through Evington. The relining process helps to reinforce the pipes, making them more resilient to issues like bursts and extending their lifespan.
While on site, Mr Adam was shown how the crew uses CCTV cameras to inspect the pipes in the sewer network and learned more about the function of CSOs and Severn Trent’s plans to phase them out and how this will help to improve the health of the nearby Evington Brook.
Shockat Adam MP, said: “It was really interesting to see this process first hand and hear about how Severn Trent is working with the community to deliver this important project. I’m looking forward to following its progress to ensure the community sees the benefits promised
“It was also good to learn about the work that they’re delivering to improve the health of the Evington Brook, and the range of support that is on offer to people, whether that’s help when it comes to paying their bill, or inclusion on the Priority Services Register.”
The visit was led by Alex Cooney, Severn Trent’s Waste Team lead for Leicestershire.
Alex said: “It’s always a pleasure to talk about the work that we’re delivering to improve our networks to give our customers peace of mind that we’re addressing both current and future issues.
“We always have to balance the need to improve and update our infrastructure with minimising any disruption to the local community and have modified our working hours to ensure that we’re completing this work as quickly and safely as possible and with a reduced impact on local residents.”
The visit follows confirmation by Ofwat in December of Severn Trent’s plans to invest £15bn to 2030, £300m of which will be spent in Leicestershire.
