Leicestershire residents invited to drop-in ahead of next phase of Severn Trent pipe upgrades
18th July 2023
Severn Trent is inviting residents from the Witherley in Leicestershire to hear more about the next phase of works to upgrade the water pipes in the area.
The company will begin the installation of 6.2km (3.8 miles) of new pipes in the village of Witherley, a week later than originally planned, on Monday 24th July. The £1.6 million project follows the delivery of 1.5km (1 mile) of upgraded pipework on Upton Lane, Shenton Lane, and Twycross Road.
A drop-in session will be held on Thursday 20th July at Witherley Parish Room, Chapel Lane, Witherley, CV9 3LR on 20 July from 3pm to 6pm.
The current works are part of a total of £3 million that Severn Trent is spending to improve the water network in Leicestershire over the next two to three years.
Helen Purdy, community communications officer at Severn Trent, said: “We know that this area has historically been prone to bursts and leaks which can impact customer supply, so we're making the investment in the area to ensure that our network is more robust and ready to handle the future demands of things like climate change and population growth.
“As pipes age, they can be more prone to bursts so through these works we're making sure that our network is in the best possible position to provide our customers with an uninterrupted supply of water.
Due to the locations of the pipes to be replaced and for the safety of our teams and other road users, some traffic management will be in place throughout the works. Access to schools, , homes, shops and businesses will be maintained throughout the works.
Helen added: “We started this project in nearby Shenton in May and we'd like to thank everyone for their patience. A second team will be working simultaneously in Witherley, with a target to complete all works by Summer 2024.
“We understand that roadworks can be frustrating, but these works are essential. We always aim to have any project completed as quickly and safely as possible and with the minimum of disruption and would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.”
