Michelle Welsh MP recently visited Calverton Sewage Treatment Works after Severn Trent completed their £5million improvement works at the site in Nottinghamshire.

A whole host of improvements have been made to the site, including new pumps to help the site cope better with increased demand, as well as new tanks that hold the equivalent of over 3,700 bathtubs worth of water.

To mark the milestone, Michelle Welsh, MP for Sherwood Forest, visited the works and joined for a tour to see firsthand the impact of the investment and the advancements being made by Severn Trent.

Other key upgrades include pipework and holding tanks to increase the site capacity, new pumping stations to help move water around the site for further treatment, and additional storage and systems to help effectively clean wastewater.

Michelle Welsh, MP for Sherwood Forest, said: “I enjoyed my visit to the Calverton Sewage Treatment Works to understand more about the processes that take place at these sites and the work that goes into cleaning water. It was great to see the investment Severn Trent has made as they become more proactive in protecting our environment.

“It was great to hear just how passionate those at Calverton Sewage Treatment Works are about their jobs, making sure everything runs smoothly at the site from the moment sewage comes in, to the moment clean water leaves.”
