Severn Trent’s £2 million investment in Shrewsbury’s water pipes is now continuing in the Roman Road area of the town, and the company is inviting local residents to drop-in session to hear more about the next stage of work planned.
Gareth Mead, from Severn Trent, said: “To make sure the water pipes in Shrewsbury continue to serve the community for years to come, we need to replace two miles of pipes. We’re keen to tell the local community all about our plans, so we’re holding a drop-in session on Wednesday 3 February at Louise House on Roman Road, near Upper Road junction, SY3 9JN, between 4pm and 7pm.
“Local residents will know that recently we’ve had a number of burst water pipes in the area and the work we’re doing involves replacing the old ones to prevent this from happening in the future. We’ve now reached the halfway point of our project and we’d like to thank the local community for their patience. We’d also like to encourage them to come along to the drop-in, meet the team and learn more about our next stage of our plans. This work could be tricky, and while we think we’ve found the best way of laying the pipes with the minimum impact, we’re hoping that by talking to the community, they’ll help us to find those little gems of information which can make a huge difference to our plans.”
Severn Trent’s contract partner, Amey, plan to start laying the new pipes in February. To keep the workforce and everyone who uses the road safe, a one way traffic system will be put in place, and more information about this will be available at the drop-in session.
Gareth added: “We know that we may cause some inconvenience for the local community, and we’d like to apologise to anyone who will be affected, but this work is important and will help us to keep the water running for our customers for years to come.”
