Severn Trent gives update on Linacre Reservoir boardwalk

16th September 2024

Severn Trent has provided an update on the ongoing repairs to the boardwalk at Linacre Reservoir in Derbyshire.

Just a few miles from the centre of Chesterfield, Linacre is made up of three connected bodies of water – the Upper, Middle and Lower Reservoirs.

The boardwalk, which runs along the southwestern edge of Upper Linacre Reservoir, creates a circular route for walkers, runners and cyclists but has been closed for several months for essential maintenance.

Dan Taberner, Visitor Sites Operations Manager at Severn Trent said: “Being so close to Chesterfield, Linacre is a great location for people looking to take some exercise or just relax by the water.

“The current boardwalk has been in place for about 20 years and is beginning to show signs of its age. Following a safety inspection, we were preparing to make a repair to a small part of it and decided to improve a much larger section at the same time.

“We know that the circular route around the reservoir is really popular throughout the year and we’re aiming to have the boardwalk reopened as soon as we can, however the timber that we need to use has to be custom cut and specially treated to ensure it is of the right standard.

“While we’re working to have all the works completed as quickly as possible, it would be irresponsible of us to reopen the boardwalk without it being entirely safe and we’d like to thank everyone for their patience while we complete these really important repairs.”

While the repair to the boardwalk is ongoing, the rest of the site – including routes around the Middle and Lower reservoirs at Linacre – remains fully open.
