Severn Trent goes back to school!

September 9th, 2024

As another academic year begins at schools across Coventry and Warwickshire, Severn Trent’s Education Team is preparing to get out and about bringing their free, fun and information sessions to youngsters once again.

The top team of educators are urging teachers to get in touch and book their spot for the free-of-charge interactive workshop.

The topic for children at Primary schools in Coventry and Warwickshire is ‘The Wonderful World of Water’ letting them know all about water efficiency, along with providing a host of tips that can help to save water at home. In Secondary schools our ‘Science of sewage sessions cover what should and shouldn’t be in our sewers and how we recycle our waste water.

Engaging assemblies bring to life the reasons why everyone needs to look after our water, ways everyone can help in the home and shed a light on water issues including climate change.

The last academic year saw a total of over 61,000 schoolchildren across the Severn Trent region educated and since the start of the new financial year there were 7,721 children educated in the Coventry and Warwickshire area.

The sessions for the new school year are already proving a popular draw for schools, with many schools already booked on, but there is more than enough space for schools to get in touch and book a workshop.

Maxine Smith, Senior Education Officer at Severn Trent said: “Our free workshops and assemblies are always a huge amount of fun, as well as being very informative and a fantastic way for children to get involved and learn more.

“The sessions really help youngsters to think about the work that Severn Trent does, how important it is to look after our water along with how their waste is treated and how their actions can go a long way in impacting the environment.

“We would urge interested schools or parents who would like to get a school involved to get in touch to find out more about the free sessions.”

A spokesperson for Moat House Primary School in Coventry added: “Beth was great with the children, very engaging and involved them throughout. There were lots of opportunities for our learners to actively participate with the content. Great behaviour management and connections made with the children. The props/ power point supported the delivery, bringing learning to life and making it relevant to their lives.”

Although the summer holidays have been happening, the Education Team has still been busy hosting hugely successful tours of Severn Trent Sewage Treatment Works and attending community events that have been taking place.

Aimed at families, the tours went ahead at one treatment works for each region and every single event was fully booked and gave youngsters and their parents a chance to find out what teams at sewage treatment works do, how they deal with everything that gets flushed down the toilet and how the wastewater is treated and cleaned before being releases back into the environment.
