Severn Trent team helps Worcester school transform bungalow and gardens to benefit pupils

A dedicated team of Severn Trent volunteers turned out to help a Worcester school transform its former caretaker bungalow and gardens to boost pupil wellbeing and learning.

Staff stepped up at Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College after it won the water company’s first NeighbourGOOD award and £2,500 in funding.

Severn Trent volunteers spent two days painting and gardening at the ‘Bungalow Project', designed to create a therapeutic space to boost student attendance, learning and wellbeing.

The project was chosen as the Worcestershire winner in an online vote after impressing a panel of independent local figures, including councillors and journalists.

A school spokesperson thanks volunteers and added: “The volunteering went really well with lots of work completed and the atmosphere on both days was fab. The project is looking amazing now, with some little bits to do, including making the furniture.

“The children are very excited to go in the garden as it looks completely different to when we started the whole project. They are going to love it.

“The project is so important to us as it will give vulnerable students amazing facilities to use and enjoy through their learning on the preparing for adulthood curriculum.  It will also provide them with an environment in which they can learn new skills such as the gardening and planting.

Liz Heath, Social Impact Lead at Severn Trent said: “It was great to see some of our colleagues out supporting Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College. Our NeighbourGOOD Scheme was only introduced last year as we looked to increase our support to the communities we serve, so we’re delighted to now be out in the community supporting these projects.

“We want to support groups like this, which clearly play a crucial role in offering a helping hand to their communities, it was great to see so many faces there during the day.”
