Severn Trent thanks residents as it completes major water pipe renewal in Leicestershire

Severn Trent is thanking local people in the Leicestershire village of Witherley for their patience as the company announces the completion of a water mains renewal project.
The £1.6 million project, which started in summer 2023, has seen 5.7km of water mains replaced in the village, ensuring a more robust and reliable water supply for the local community.
Helen Purdy, Severn Trent’s Community Communications Officer at Severn Trent, said: “We’re so grateful to the people of Witherley for their understanding and patience while we’ve been working on this project.
“This been a huge undertaking in a small village with narrow streets, but the local community has been absolutely amazing and really supportive of the work. We can now be assured that the water supply for the village is more robust than ever and able to meet the current and future challenges from population growth and climate change.
“We have a little bit of tidying up to do over the next few weeks, but we’re really pleased to say that none of this will involve long road closures, just very temporary traffic lights!”
The upgrading of the pipes in Witherley is part of more than £3 million of upgrades that Severn Trent has made in Leicestershire over the last two years, and follows the delivery of 1.5km of upgraded water mains on Upton Lane, Shenton Lane and Twycross Road.
Severn Trent has also recently announced that over the next five years it will be spending £60 million to lay 135 miles of new pipes and create 49 new jobs as part of its Mains Renewal programme.
