Severn Trent welcomes class of 2020!

As part of Severn Trent’s ongoing commitment to building the skills of the next generation of technical experts and leaders, it’s now welcomed the class of 2020 onto its New Talent programmes, despite the ongoing pandemic.

The FTSE 100 company that serves over 8 million customers across the Midlands, has 70 new starters across its apprentice, graduate and undergraduate programmes, who will now begin their careers in the water industry.Jade Pearson,

New Talent Manager from Severn Trent said: “We’re really fortunate that despite the ongoing pandemic, we’ve still been able to welcome onboard the next generation of leaders and experts through our New Talent programmes.

“We’re proud that we’ve still been able to provide these opportunities to our apprentices and graduates, especially in these uncertain circumstances. We know how important it is to support our communities, and we know that bringing new talent into our company helps us develop and improve what we do, and provide the best service for our customers.”

Severn Trent has this year taken on 44 new apprentices, with 26 joining the graduate and undergraduate programme. 

All 70 new starters are settling into in their new roles, after joining the company during the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Whatever area of the business our apprentices and graduates are in, each and every single one of them will bring with them skills and talent that will help transform our business and ensure that our customers have the best possible service from us,” adds Jade. “We offer such a vital service that it won’t take long for all of them to make a real impact on people’s lives as they develop their careers, and we’re really excited for them to crack on and start making a difference in what we do.”

Katy Franklin, who’s on the HR apprentice programme said: “ “My journey at Severn Trent so far as a HR Learning & Development apprentice has been a pleasure. My interview was virtual, but I felt so comfortable and they really listened to me as an individual and what I had to offer. Upon starting, my team made me feel as though I had been there all along and included me in as much as possible to get me started in my role. I have been given so much responsibility which I love, and makes me excited for my future and the difference I can make at Severn Trent.”

Bilal Ali, who’s on the Finance apprentice programme added: “Even under exceptional circumstances the application process was very efficient. I was constantly updated throughout the different stages and always felt assured. I feel the company has a great culture and are excellent at welcoming new talent, as I have always been treated as a priority and I have never felt uneasy about asking questions. Severn Trent are great at pushing you to be the best you can be and are very proactive in aiding self-development. I look forward to expand my knowledge in order to progress my career.”

Severn Trent has created varied apprenticeship schemes that includes programmes such as ; Operations and Maintenance, Broadcast Production, HR and Learning and Development, Tanker Driving, Technology and Finance, with its graduate schemes focussing on Finance, Engineering, Technology and Business Leadership.
