Severn Trent’s Draycote Water turns 50!
Monday 1st July 2019
What do Dave Grohl, Sesame Street, the first moon landing and Draycote Water all have in common?
They’re all turning 50 this year!
Severn Trent’s popular Warwickshire visitor site is pulling out all the stops by celebrating its special 50th birthday, and throwing a massive picnic party – and everyone’s invited.
The reservoir, completed back in 1969, supplies Severn Trent customers with wonderful water across Warwickshire.
Tom Crawford, site supervisor for Severn Trent, says, “Everybody loves a good birthday party, so that’s why we’ve pulled out all the stops to make Draycote’s birthday a special one.
“We’re going to have loads going on, kicking off with a 5km run for WaterAid, followed by loads of fun including a land train, inflatables, circus skills, sailing boats and even our amazing interactive education buses!”
Draycote Water’s picnic themed birthday party takes place on Saturday 13 July, with celebrations kicking off at 10:30am, after the Water Aid 5km run which starts at 9:30am.
Over the last 50 years the reservoir has played a vital role in supplying customers with water, as well as being a place for visitors to run, walk and cycle around, while being home to hundreds and hundreds of different types of wildlife through the years.
“We’ve been working really hard getting this party together, and we even had the help from two local schools, Leamington Hastings Primary and Dunchurch Boughton Juniors, after they came in and gave us a hand in creating some great artwork for the party that will have pride of place in the visitor centre,” adds Tom. “Draycote is such a pivotal part of the community, even if you haven’t visited the site before, if you live in South Warwickshire and turn the tap on – chances are the water you’re getting is from Draycote. It really is a site to be celebrated, and we’re so excited to be able to invite the whole community to join us to celebrate 50 wonderful years.”
