Severn Trent to install new water pipes in Redditch

Thursday 12th October

Severn Trent is to replace a kilometre of water pipes in Redditch to reduce the risk of leaks and bursts in the future.

The company is planning to start work to install the new pipes beneath Ravensbank Drive in the Moons Moat North Industrial Estate on Monday 16 October.

Gareth Mead, from Severn Trent, explains: “The network in this area has been in place for many years and that’s why we’re investing in new pipes that will make sure our customers have a reliable water supply for the future.

“When pipes burst we have to carry out emergency repairs which can result in road closures at short notice – that’s what we want to avoid and these new pipes will result in fewer leaks and bursts in the years ahead and will make sure people always have water when they need it.”

During the work, sections of Ravensbank Drive will be closed to traffic and a fully signposted diversion will be in place for motorists.

Gareth added: “We know it’s never ideal to close a road, but to make sure our engineers can work safely we will need to have traffic restrictions in place throughout the work.

“We’ve been working closely with local businesses which are based nearby, and our contractors from Amey will work to minimise disruption as much as possible throughout the project. We hope everything will be complete early in December.”

The scheme forms part of Severn Trent’s commitment to investing in its infrastructure which will see the equivalent of £1,400 invested for every home and business it serves between 2015 and 2020.
