Severn Trent to invest £1.3m in new sewage pumping equipment in Derbyshire

Tuesday 15th August

Severn Trent is to invest £1.3m to carry out essential upgrades to one of its sewage pumping stations in Belper to make sure local people continue to receive a great service.

As well as refurbishing the pumping station, the company will also be building a new access road to the site just off Ashbourne Road.

Graham Robinson, who is leading the project for Severn Trent, explains: “This is really essential work to update the pumping station and make sure it can continue to pump waste away from homes in the area well into the future.

“As well as being more reliable, the new equipment we’re installing will have a greater capacity and will require fewer routine maintenance visits.”

Work is already underway just off Ashbourne Road to create the new access road to the site, with the main construction work on the upgrades due to start in the middle of September with an estimated completion date of February.

Graham added: “To be able to complete the work safely we’ve agreed with Derbyshire County Council that the footpath will be closed for the main construction works. We’ve written to local people to make them aware and signs will be in place to clearly mark the closure. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this causes but we hope people realise that these upgrades will have long lasting benefits for the town.”
