Teamwork makes the dream work at Severn Trent reservoir

Wednesday 1st March 2017

Located in the heart of Powys and set amongst the rolling Cambrian Mountains, lies one of Severn Trent’s largest and most spectacular reservoirs.

Llyn Clywedog reservoir, situated near Llanidloes, welcomes thousands of visitors each year, so when repairs were needed to its popular scenic trail, the team had to think fast.

John Telford, site supervisor for Severn Trent, said: “The boardwalk on the trail looked like Gogmagog the Giant had walked over it, it really needed fixing up. The problem was, it’s located on the other side of the reservoir, so we were looking at having to bring in specialist contractors.

“The scenic trail here is hugely popular, so the repairs were a priority for us. We put our heads together and knew that, with a bit of teamwork, we could get the job done ourselves.”

Holding the equivalent of 20,000 Olympic sized swimming pools, the reservoir is also the ideal home for Clywedog Sailing Club. So the Severn Trent team had an idea.

“We contacted the sailing club, and they helped us get the materials over using their boats which meant we could crack on with the repairs ourselves. This quick thinking, and joint effort, meant the path was fixed in just two days,” said John.

The Severn Trent reservoir boasts majestic views and offers a wide variety of activities for visitors, including fishing, sailing, walking with plenty of wildlife to spot.

“It’s really important that our reservoirs are kept in great condition, not only for everyone’s safety, but it also means that no one misses out when they come to visit,” adds John “We’re really thankful for the help from the sailing club, this was a brilliant example of team work that really helped us as we look to leave a lasting legacy for current and future generations.”
