Improving river health across your communities

We’re committed to reducing the impact of storm overflows and improving river health.

Our dedicated Spills Programme is driving real change, with a team of engineers working around the clock to make a difference.

Since June 2024, we've completed an average of 34 enhancements a week, including 244 new storage solutions and over 180 flap valves to help prevent flooding during high river levels. But we know there’s more to do.

Whether you’re a river user, a local resident, or simply interested in river health, you want to see action—and so do we. That’s why we’re moving faster than any other water company to reduce spills from storm overflows as quickly as possible.

How we will continue going further and faster

Our ambitious plans mean we’re spending a further £2 billion over the next five years to improve river health. And we’re fast tracking the delivery of an additional 600 solutions, by autumn 2025. With all of this, we aim to reduce the use of storm overflows across the region.
