Terms and Conditions

Entry to the competition is free. Start date for entries is 05.08.2024 at 9.00am. Closing date for entries for is 02.09.2024 at 00:00 (midnight). Entries will not be accepted after this time and will be automatically disregarded.

In these terms and conditions, “You” “Your”, or “Entrant” means any person who seeks to enter the competition. “Us”, “we” and “our” refers to Severn Trent Water Limited (“STW”).

It is the responsibility of each Entrant to ensure that they have read, understood and agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions. By submitting an entry, each Entrant agrees to comply with these terms and conditions. Any entry found not to comply with these terms and conditions will be disqualified. In such instances, any prizes will be forfeited.

By entering this competition, You:

1. Confirm that you are eligible to do so and are eligible to claim and prize You may win; and
2. Agree to be bound by all of the terms and condition of this competition and the Severn Trent group Privacy Policy.

To take part in this competition You must:

• Take a visit to the location(s) outlined on the Severn Trent summer treasure maps, found at stwater.co.uk/summer.
• Take a photo of you enjoying a summer experience in nature.
• Upload it to the hashtag #STYourLocalTreasure and/or tag the Severn Trent official Instagram account in your post (@severntrent). Please be aware that your account must be public in order for to view your entry.

If you do not wish to make your entry public, we will accept entries through Instagram direct messenger to the official Severn Trent (@severntrent) Instagram account.

Multiple entries will be accepted (1 photo = 1 entry).

STW reserves the right to suspend or modify the competition in whole or in part at any time without notice and without liability.  STW has absolute discretion in respect of all matters relating to this competition and its administration and all decisions are made are final and binding.

This competition is open to STW Customers only. For these purposes, “Customer” or “Customers” means any person aged over 18 whose primary residence is a domestic property which is supplied with water and sewerage services by STW. This competition is not open to businesses (including sole traders).

Entrants must be 18 years or older when entering the competition and must be entering in their personal capacity.

Employees, agents, contractors and suppliers of the Severn Trent plc and group of companies may enter this competition, but in the event that such person wins the competition the no prize will be awarded to that person.

STW’s decision in relation to a person’s eligibility to enter this competition shall be final.

Any breach of the below ethical standards will also constitute a breach of the competition rules.

Entrants must be mindful of the welfare of animals and safe-guarding the environment and ensure that they do not do anything to injure or cause distress to any animals or destroy their habitat in an attempt to secure an image.

Entrants must not put themselves or anyone else in danger for the purposes of taking photos for this competition.

Entrants must not submit images that are misleading, false, may cause damage to the Severn Trent plc group’s reputation, have been taken through the use of cruel or unethical practices, or in the opinion of STW are inappropriate. In such cases, the entry will be disqualified and/ or deleted and Severn Trent reserve the right to report the entrant to the relevant authorities.

Entrants must ensure to get permissions from anyone who is identifiable or are the sole feature of a photo. If a person under the age of 18 is identifiable or are the sole feature of the photo, permission must be given by the parents or guardians.

Entrants must only enter on behalf of themselves and not another person without appropriate consent.

During the competition Severn Trent plc have the rights to re-post all photo entries on our Instagram, X and Facebook pages - if we use your photo for this purpose we will always contact you first to gain consent and credit you.

Each entry must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the intellectual property rights of any other party.

Each entrant must either be the sole owner of the copyright or have secured the written permission of the copyright owner to enter the image into the Competition and when given consent, grants Severn Trent the rights to use the photo as listed below:

• Inclusion within any website owned by Severn Trent including but not limited to www.stwater.co.uk; severntrent.com; hdcymru.co.uk
• Inclusion on social media sites including but not limited to, Facebook, X, Instagram and LinkedIn
• In promotional, press and marketing materials.
• Inclusion in any marketing promotions associated with this competition or future competitions.
• The copyright in all images submitted to the Competition will remain with the copyright holder, however upon entering the competition you will automatically grant Severn Trent rights to use this photo for an unlimited time if you are chosen as one of the twenty-five (25) winners.
• Original OR raw photo files may be requested by Severn Trent, Severn Trent to STW via email or shared file sites (e.g. dropbox / WeTransfer etc.)

STW as the data controller, is permitted to adapt, reformat, vary and edit the photo as appropriate.

Judging will take place by a panel of STW employees.

Winners will be contacted via Instagram by 30.09.2024 if you have not heard by this date you have not won.

The winners of the competition will be notified via Instagram on or before 30.09.2024 once the judging takes place.

Winners will be asked to provide a postal address for the prize to be sent. Prizes will be sent out within three (3) weeks of notification of a delivery address.

There are twenty-five (25) winning Virgin Experience Days voucher, with the value of one hundred pounds (£100).

Virgin Experience Days Vouchers will be delivered by post to each winner. Vouchers can be used online. Terms and conditions apply which can be found here.

The prize is subject to availability, and we reserve the right to substitute the prize for a prize of equal or greater monetary value at our absolute discretion. There is no cash alternative to the prize. The prize is non-refundable, non-negotiable and non-transferable. The prize cannot be claimed by any third party on Your behalf.

If the competition winners do not respond to Severn Trent within ten (10) days of notification that they have won, STW reserves the right to withdraw them as the winner and choose an alternative winner which would have been selected at the same time, by the same judges applying the same criteria.

STW shall not be liable for network, hardware, computer, software, restrictions or issues with the Instagram service, software or technical failures of any kind, which may restrict or delay Your submitting an entry by the closing date.

Each entrant should take their own adequate measures to protect themselves against viruses or any information security threat.

STW will not accept liability for any:

• Loss or damage of any image entered into the Competition.
• Misuse of images by third parties and/or failure of entrants to comply with the competition’s rules.

STW is a “controller” of personal data of competition entrants and is responsible for ensuring personal data is used in line with data protection laws (the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (“GDPR”) and Data Protection Act 2018 (“DPA”)).

STW will hold and process all personal data as stated in the STW Privacy Policy.  

STW will process personal data from winning entrants only:

Full name

Email address

Postal address

[Instagram handle]

STW will process your personal data only for the management and administration of the competition. In processing personal data in connection with the competition, STW will rely on the lawful basis of consent.

Personal data will only be retained as per the retention schedule and no longer than three (3) months after sending the prize.
